What is your role as a LA?
LA will support the teacher’s lesson by introducing action verbs in order to complete an activity
How are you and the teacher working to complement each other?
The teacher and LA will be working together to teach them rhythms while practicing action verbs.
What activities are the students going to do?
The teacher will present a PowerPoint that will explain half, quarter, and whole notes.
After the teacher’s presentation, the LA will use a PowerPoint presentation to talk about action verbs and explain how they will create a musical composition using action verbs. Action verbs include:
- snap fingers
- clap hands
- click tongue
- stomp feet
- tap head
LA will teach the task by creating a composition made of 8 notes and 3 of the action verbs above. LA will proceed by modeling the activity.
Guided Practice
The La will ask the students for three action verbs and she will write them on the board. The LA will also ask the students choose 8 notes. LA will model the task first and then have the students join in.
Collaborative Practice
Students will be divided into groups of 4 or 5 and they will collaboratively choose three of the action verbs from the list above. One student will be assigned to write the groups decisions. The students will create a composition of 8 notes, which will be represented by the three action verbs that they chose. After 10 minutes of practice, they will present their musical composition to the class.
How will you be evaluating the activities?
Students will be evaluated by their participation in the lesson.
How will the students know they have achieved the learning objectives?
Students be able to identify both action verbs and notes independently in the next lesson review.
How will you be responding to diverse learning styles and levels of achievement among your students?
The groups will be of multiple level English speakers, and because of this the students can be supported by peer scaffolding.
